Bath Corn Market has been disused for six years. A group of concerned individuals has been working hard during 2004/06 to secure the renovation and re-use of the building.
By January 2007 the following had been achieved:
- WALCOT STREET TRUST (WST) set up as a limited company - no: 5192521;
- Charitable status was approved in early 2005 - reg. no: 1108228;
- an Options Appraisal was completed in November 2005 with the help of a £7,500 grant from the Architectural Heritage Fund;
- a structural analysis of the Corn Market has been carried out and several options for repair identified;
- the CORN MARKET QUEST, held in March 2006, allowed members of the public to learn more about the building and proposals for its re-use, plus provided valuable feedback from more than 300 individuals & groups;
- the proposed end use for the renovated Corn Market is an Arts Centre for Bath & North East Somerset;
- the new centre will provide a rentable gallery, studios, performance & workshop spaces and a cafe/bar;
- the WST management committee, trustees and co-opted members meets monthly and new members and trustees are welcome;
